Certificate IV in Horticulture updates crucial skills for council teams. Horticulture is an essential part of any local council’s operations. The teams that are responsible for maintaining the beauty and functionality of public spaces, parks, and gardens are often led by supervisors with a lot of experience but potentially haven’t renewed their skills through education for a decade or more. However, the horticulture industry is constantly evolving, and local council supervisory staff needs to keep up with the latest trends and techniques to ensure that they are providing the best possible service to their communities.

One way to achieve this is by supporting senior horticulture and garden staff to study a Certificate IV in Horticulture (AHC40422) or a Diploma of Horticulture Management (AHC50422) with ARO College. Here are some reasons why:

Improved Knowledge and Skills: Studying a Certificate IV in Horticulture or Diploma of Horticulture Management with ARO College will provide senior horticulture and garden staff with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in their roles. They will learn about the latest trends and techniques in the industry, which they can then apply to their work and as they supervise others.

Increased Productivity: By studying a Certificate IV in Horticulture or Diploma of Horticulture Management with ARO College, senior horticulture and garden staff will be able to work more efficiently and effectively. They will be able to identify problems and find solutions more quickly, which will increase productivity and reduce downtime.

Better Service Delivery: By sending senior horticulture and garden staff to study a Certificate IV in Horticulture or Diploma of Horticulture Management with ARO College, local councils can ensure that they are providing the best possible service to their communities. Staff will be able to maintain public spaces, parks, and gardens to a higher standard, which will improve the quality of life for residents.

On-site Visits: ARO College offers on-site visits to students, which means that senior horticulture and garden staff can receive training and support in their work environment. This will help them to apply what they have learned more effectively and efficiently. They do not need to attend any classroom sessions, so time away from the workplace and lost productivity are eliminated.

South Australian-owned and Focused: ARO College is a South Australian-owned and focused training institution, which means that it has a deep understanding of the local horticulture industry. By studying with ARO College, senior horticulture and garden staff will be able to learn from experts who have a wealth of experience in the South Australian horticulture industry.

The South Australian government, via Skills SA, offer generous training subsidies. Our team are happy to explain this and is just a phone call away.

Supporting senior horticulture and garden staff to study a Certificate IV in Horticulture (AHC40422) or Diploma of Horticulture Management (AHC50422) with ARO College is an investment in the future of local councils. It will improve knowledge and skills, increase productivity, and ensure that local councils are providing the best possible service to their communities.

With on-site visits and a focus on the South Australian horticulture industry, ARO College is the perfect choice for local councils looking to invest in their staff and their communities.

A landscape design course offers a unique career path for creative individuals with a knack for spatial perception and a passion for gardens and horticulture. Are you looking to combine these interests into a rewarding career?

Then you should study the AHC50621 Diploma of Landscape Design with ARO College!

We accept Landscape Design students from Adelaide, regional South Australia and beyond! Our trainers will visit your worksite to provide you with a 1:1 experience that is second to none.

ARO College has a contract with Skills SA which allows SA residents to study a landscape design course at a massively subsidised cost, and we can work with you and your employer to ensure your training meets both your needs as a student and their needs as a business.

The type of tasks a Landscape Designer does are varied depending on the project they are working on. But typically it can include:

Plan and design functional and attractive layouts for sites according to a client’s brief, having conducted assessments of climate, soil and sun exposure.

Produce technical drawings (often using CAD software), which specify the location and species of plants in addition to pathways, garden structures, water features, walls and paved areas.

Liaise with contractors and builders to ensure the construction, irrigation and planting adheres to the design and is completed on time and on budget.

It is critical for Landscape Designers to be creative individuals with excellent spatial perception and horticultural knowledge. Landscape Designers need to have strong interpersonal skills, as they will be communicating with clients and contractors working on different projects.

Graduates from a landscape design course may work in domestic, private or commercial landscape and horticultural projects.

Landscape Designers looking to further their careers may look to working as horticultural consultants, planning and development surveyors or urban designers.

More reasons to become a Landscape Designer:

Being a landscape designer in South Australia comes with several advantages and unique opportunities that contribute to a fulfilling and rewarding career. Here are some of the best things about being a landscape designer in SA:

Diverse Landscapes: South Australia boasts diverse landscapes, from stunning coastlines and vineyards to the rugged Outback.

Leaving high school is a huge moment in every student’s life, as it marks the beginning of their journey into the world of adulthood – and career choices. While many young people are attracted to university or office jobs, there’s an often overlooked but incredibly rewarding option that awaits in South Australia – the horticulture industry. Engaging in horticulture, the science and art of cultivating plants, offers huge benefits for those who choose to make it their career path in the stunning landscapes of South Australia.

South Australia boasts a diverse range of landscapes, from lush vineyards in the Barossa Valley to the arid beauty of the Outback. This diversity translates into a wide array of horticultural opportunities. As a budding horticulturist (pun intended), you can find your niche in grape growing, citrus farming, flower cultivation, or landscape construction. The state’s climatic variations provide a perfect canvas for honing your skills and becoming a specialist in your chosen field.

Jobs in the Horticulture industry offer incredible job security. The demand for fresh produce, ornamental plants, and sustainable landscaping is constant. South Australia’s growing population and emphasis on self-sufficiency furthers the importance of the horticulture industry. Graduates in this field often find themselves in high demand!

For those who prefer learning by doing in the outdoors rather than sitting in a classroom, horticulture is a perfect fit. Practical experience is extremely important in this industry, and the ARO College AHC30722 Certificate III in Horticulture and AHC30921 Certificate III in Landscape Construction qualifications both offer loads of hands-on training.

Working directly with plants and soil allows you to apply the theory knowledge from our easy-to-follow Learner Workbooks in real-world situations at your worksite, so you earn while you learn.

With increasing concerns about climate change and environmental degradation, horticulturists in South Australia play a pivotal role in sustainability efforts. This career allows you to contribute positively to the environment by promoting responsible land management, conservation, and the cultivation of drought-resistant crops. Being an environmental steward can be immensely fulfilling and personally rewarding. ARO College offers a specialty qualification if this is an area of passion for you, the Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.

Watching your efforts bear fruit, quite literally, can be immensely satisfying. Horticulturists often find a deep sense of fulfillment in nurturing plants, witnessing their growth, and producing bountiful harvests. Whether it’s a thriving garden, a flourishing vineyard, or a stunning landscape design, the tangible results of your labour can be a real sense of personal pride.

If you have a passion for the great outdoors and a love for nature, horticulture is an ideal career choice. Working in South Australia’s picturesque landscapes, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with nature daily.

So, if you’re passionate about plants, the environment, and the beauty of South Australia, consider exploring the exciting world of horticulture as your next step after high school.
